Debian Etch (4): First Impressions Tuesday, April 10, 2007 @ 22:19:14 AST by meshal (1176 reads) | Debian deserves some extra attention. The latest release is being
distributed and I have no doubt that it will be installed on quite a few
machines over the coming days and weeks. Personally I want to try it on the iMac
Indigo and on a virtual machine under VMware.

Abit AB9 (P965 + ICH8) Monday, March 05, 2007 @ 12:22:16 AST by meshal (775 reads) | Last month we looked at Abit's NF-M2 nView motherboard. The NF-M2 nView was
one of the first microATX motherboards that offered upscale overclocking
abilities while featuring integrated graphics with both VGA and DVI connectors
(not to mention being a first for Universal Abit). Abit continued to use their
Silent OTES technology on this
AM2
motherboard along with the usual extras. Ultimately we found
the Abit NF-M2 nView motherboard to be an excellent contender for HTPC
enthusiasts and had worked quite well with Fedora Core 6.

GeForce And Radeon Take On Linux Saturday, July 15, 2006 @ 20:41:27 AST by meshal (824 reads) |
Both ATI and Nvidia have succeeded in establishing workable driver solutions for a broad range of their latest product lines, from the minimally-equipped budget-oriented to extravagantly-detailed enthusiast products. In this article, we examine the basic performance differentials for a Radeon X1900 XTX and GeForce 7800 GTX. Our aim is to help readers establish a basis from which to compare Linux and Windows driver performance. Examination of both cards uses vendor-issued driver sets under a common distribution, with Unreal Tournament 2004 benchmarks to facilitate the comparison

Albatron K8SLI Saturday, February 04, 2006 @ 04:24:41 AST by meshal (1046 reads) | phoronix:
Albatron K8SLI does pack on its wealth of motherboard
innovations when it comes to the dual BIOS with ABS card, Watch Dog Timer, and
digital SLI selector. As far as the Linux support goes, we had experienced no
problems with the exception of LM_Sensors and its detection. With the
motherboard layout, we had also noticed a few flaws with its design, which is
likely due to the skinnier PCB design that it is based upon.
