Red Hat Trojan.
Monday, October 25, 2004 @ 19:42:12 AST by meshal (768 reads)
securityhardocp.com: Red Hat Linux users beware that an e-mail that is currently making the rounds urging Linux users to update is a Trojan. I’m sure most of you don’t fall for that kind of stuff, but just in case….you know, like if your “friend” might fall for it, you can warn them.

Red Hat has been made aware that emails are circulating that pretend to come from the Red Hat Security Team. These emails tell users to download and run an update from a users home directory. This fake update appears to contain malicious code.

The following Denial of Service Flaw was reported in Samba 3.0 versions prior to and including v3.0.6:

(i) A DoS bug in smbd may allow an unauthenticated user to cause smbd to spawn new processes each one entering an infinite

loop. After sending a sufficient amount of packets it is possible to exhaust the memory resources on the server.
(ii) A DoS bug in nmbd may allow an attacker to remotely crash the nmbd daemon.
